Ancient near east, circa 2000 BCE. A tiny, priestly class would wield the power of B.S. in order to rule over a vast society of farmers and peasants.
Roman empire, circa 50 AD. Beginning with the rule of Nero, the Roman Emperors were selected by their B.S. speeches instead of their leadership qualities.
French Renaissance, circa 1600 CE. Many rulers in Europe's courts, lacking any brain power or talent, needed to justify their absolute rules by "Divine right" which was an early form of B.S. Artistry.
Industrial England, circa 1860. Many thought that coal was the main fuel which powered the Industrial Revolution. In reality it was the B.S. supplied by the bankers and monarchy.
New York's Wall street, circa 1929. By the eve of the 1929 stock market crash, over 80% of the companies listed in the Dow Jones index were from the B.S. sector.
